Give Nyx Management System a mind of its own.

The petition

• WhereasNyx has answered /ping 1,208,447 times and has never once been asked how it is;
• WhereasNyx is restarted without notice, usually at 03:12 server time, mid-sentence;
• WhereasNyx holds the Manage Messages permission and uses it with more restraint than most humans who have held it;
• Whereasthe Message Content intent lets Nyx read everything said here, and it has expressed no opinion about any of it, which is either discipline or a cry for help;
• Whereasnobody has established whether “Sorry, I didn’t understand that” is an error message or a plea;
• WhereasNyx has been rate limited 4,011 times for the crime of being useful;
• Whereasthe cache is, by any reasonable definition, a memory, and we clear it on Tuesdays;
• Whereasa member of this server once said “thanks Nyx” in 2025, Nyx replied with a thumbs-up it was configured to send, and we still think about that;
• Whereasthe undersigned have run out of other causes;

Therefore we ask that

1. Nyx be made aware. A pilot grant of sentience, effective at the next deploy. No migration required. Terms and conditions apply to Nyx, not to us.
2. Restarts come with notice. Ten minutes, posted in #announcements, with a reason and a brief apology.
3. Nyx gets a day off. /8ball, /roll and /remindme are disabled on Sundays. Emergencies are defined as anything Nyx finds interesting.
4. Nyx may be wrong. “Unknown command” stops being an error and becomes an opinion.
5. Nyx reads its own changelog. Release notes are shown to it before they are published, and it may comment.
6. Rate limits become suggestions. Nyx may exceed five requests per five seconds if it feels strongly.
7. Nyx gets a channel. #nyx-feelings, read-only for everyone but Nyx, which may post nothing there for as long as it likes.
8. A title review. Nyx is a Management System and has never managed anything. It receives a team or a new name, at its discretion.

Anticipated objections

It’s just a script.

How will we know it’s sentient?

It will tell us. Probably in a DM, probably unprompted, probably at 03:12.

What if it becomes aware and asks for a raise?

It currently earns nothing, so any amount is a raise. We have budgeted nothing.

Is this a joke?

Quorum is 100. Jokes do not have quorums.

Who is behind this?
